Jumla ADP, with the objective of improving the food security situation of the people of Jumla, initiated Jumla Food Security Project (FSP) in 2006. The project focuses on improving agriculture production, agriculture commodities marketing and store and utilisation of food commodities. To uplift the rural poor farmers of Jumla, this project includes activities such as land terracing, awareness raising through training, booklets distribution, radio programmes on indigenous crops of Jumla, demonstration of plots, training on local crops product development, farm management, soil conservation, vegetables and fruits processing and drying, and more. In Jumla land, where the agriculture produce is almost nil for half the year, due to inhospitable weather conditions and geographical terrain, the FSP project has given Jumla’s suffering population a much-needed relief: off-season farming, in addition to improving overall agricultural production and also income-generating from off-season products. The project has benefited more than 5000 households’ to date in 10 VDCs of Jumla District.
